Mom in uk

Last meeting day here in Wallingford. Yesterdays meeting ended at 4 to allow time to get everyone into Oxford. This was a great experience and I have loads of pics to put up once I have finished this blog.

Quirky old pubs (and there are sooooo many pubs), lots of people on the streets walking or riding bikes, lots of students dressed to the nines for the graduation ball at Trinity, lots of professor types sanding around and of course all of the wonderful buildings that make up Oxford University and it's associated colleges. Did not see Lord Peter But there were definitely some Harriet types around, well dressed Female academics. Oxford university is old and the buildings and associated churches dominate the town but it is actually much older and there are some very old looking buildings still standing.

The pubs are really special and mike acre man who is our host in Wallingford kindly provided a map with his 3 favorite pubs marked out. The Turf Tavern was the quirkiest and the oldest, completely hidden from the street, you had to go down a small lane way called Bath place and then there was just a small passage way and once at the end you were in the grounds of a very old style pub that was absolutely packed.

The lamb and eagle pub was the haunt of CS Lewis and JRR Tolkein. It has many very small rooms that are like small drinking nooks with built in benches and tables. The whole pub has very low ceilings and the nooks have even lower ceilinga, very cozy. All the nooks were full of people so i could not get a photo but it was easy to imagine a nook full of hobbits and I swear one of these pubs was used in the movie.
