Fri 1 july
Spokane still looks good. Our old house is now painted tan and looks good. So this morning Chrissy and Buzzie and I loaded up the ute for the lake first stopping at home depot hardware to look for a snake to clear out a friend's sewer at the lake....looks like fun..... I found a little pipe connector which I am bringing back for Josh to check out. Next we met DB at his storage unit to pick up a large lounge to also bring to the lake ....looks like more fun.... We did, however, listen to stacy kent on the way and both b and c loved it.
after arrival DB and buzz and I hiked over the hill to Dorchus's house who is the girl with the clogged sewer. A perfect buzzie job....we ended up excavating the sewer hkolding tank...54inch diameter lid from about 1 and 1/2 meters deep beneath the ground. Fortunately by this time we were all wearing gloves....
It was back and forth over the hill several times including me clearing about 12 barrows of dirt from the site to a retaining wall on the beach where they were putting in one.
by now the day was pretty much gone and it was a couple of beers, pulled pork and hamburger buns for tea.
SAT 2 July. A little more sewer work today making a deck to put over the excavated hole...instead of filling it in. In the midst of this, Michael and Larissa and their 3 kids arrived joining Maria Robert and their two. Getting a bit noiser. While they were basking on the beach, DB and Buzzie and I fixed the dock ramp and I really DID drill a few holes and put in the odd screw. bolt etc.
For dinner it was cheesburgers, hotdogs and salad with VIOLA'S CHILE SAUCE. It was a huge hit, everyone loved it especially Robert who is Mexican....the entire jar went on the one meal.
Then a few tequillas with DB and Buzzie and finally bed.
Sun 3 JUly.
A cool morning found us having a "big" breakfast called "saddlebags" basically pancakes this bacon and egges in between. and then it was a little more work on the dock and a kayak paddle a beer and lunch.
A strong wind came up and I hiked over to the other side to see the lee side and saw a woodpecker up close. Back to the cabin and Nico conned me into reading him and Regan numerous storybooks.Nico is Robert and Maria's and Regan is Michaels.
Outside, in the middle of the day, we all saw a huge bald eagle flying directly overhead. Beautiful creature.
Dinner ( after a brief nap ) was ribs a la DB and they were great with a little beer and wine thrown in.
Buzzie also made a pitcher of margaritas which also went very quickly.
After dinner we made a campfire and the bigger kids toasted marshmellows and we also had some hersheys chocolate.
Monday 4 July
Before breakfast, I took the kayak and had an early paddle around the island. Took about 1 hour 20 min at a leisurely pace. Very quiet at 6 am and the water was very still....also still very cold.
Since ti was the 4th of July, the kids and the kids kids will all be heading back to Spokane later this afternoon so we kindof hung and stayed around the beach etc.
After lunch, they all cleaned their huts and packed and left about 4 30. On the way back, Buzzie and I stopped at Dorchus' to pick up "junk" to take to the tip tomorrow....we put it on the punt.
We agreed to have a "joint" bbq at her cabin and then take her punt out to watch the 4th fireworks from the lake.
By the time the sun set it was close to 10pm so after fireworks it was home to bed.
Tues 5 July
This morning it is clean up and leave day. Buzzie and Chrissy have thier routine and I help where I can. the punt was pretty loaded with Dorchus's stuff but we managed to get our stuff on and be on the way by 10 30. Chrissy forgot her backpack and went to get it in the punt while buzzie nand I went to the tip. then it is back to Spokane where I am....finally... and we'll have some lunch with the next arrivals Juan Pablo and his daughter who are more of the b and c connection with Mexico....I think he is Yolanda's brother.
buzzie is currently picking them up at the airport and after lunch he'll take me back out to the airport.
Lastly, as I close, I do have some pictures but no way to put them on the blog. I'll let Mum select a few ( if we have the right connection ) and put some on tomorrow at SF starbucks.Hugs to all.
